The despatch and its enclosures to which reference is made in the postcript to Messrs Wolfe Barry's letter are those which were transmitted to us with your memorandum
of the 6th of January. The original enclosures to which are herewith returned.
6. I beg to add that Sir F. Lugard is mistaken in
supposing in paragraph 3 of his despatch of 30th October
that any exception was taken on this side to the system
under which his Predecessor had required the Resident Engineer
to attend weekly at Government House to confer with the
Governor as to the progress of the Railway works; what I suggested to Sir F. Lugard was that the practice of always holding such meetings on Sundays had been hardly fair to the
Resident Engineer
